Community Medical Services (CMS) is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technician. Under the direction of the Technical Director, in conjunction with the Director of Laboratory Operations, the Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist is responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and reporting test results, as authorized within their scope of employment.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Completes specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results and proficiency testing 
  • Performs testing in an accurate and timely manner according to established policies and performance standards with a knowledge level determined for that testing including the application of theory and the clinical relevance testing  
  • Prepares laboratory specimens for designated analysis and testing and routes specimens to the staging area  
  • Completes all paperwork and technical/non-technical procedures required to process, submit, and analyze specimens  
  • Assigns specific computer-generated identification numbers, checks for accuracy, and records all items processed  
  • Operates data entry terminals and automated data systems, follows standard sequences/coding when entering data and corrects, edits, and verifies data entered into automated systems  
  • Performs specimen audits to resolve outstanding problems  
  • Performs general housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the integrity of the laboratory  
  • Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and documents quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance  
  • Follows laboratory policies if test systems are not within the established acceptable levels of performance  
  • Identifies and resolves problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results  
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specification  

Qualifications

Education, Certification and Experience Requirements 

  • Doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s degree in laboratory science OR education equivalent to an associate degree AND graduated from a clinical laboratory training program OR has three months of experience in each specialty of a high complexity testing performed  
  • Board certification as indicated by education level; at minimum, must hold certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent specialty certification 
  • Problem solving, conflict resolution, and strong customer service skills  
  • Passion, humility, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed  
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail  
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively between all organizational levels and with outside providers  
  • Adheres to and enforces company policies and procedures 

 

Tools and Equipment Requirements 

  • The ability to use a phone, computer, printer, and copier is required. 
  • Frequent use of Microsoft office products, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • The ability to use the internet and various web browser software is required. 
  • Operation of pipetting devices to manipulate clinical specimens and chemical reagents 
  • Use of laboratory instruments/analyzers to perform clinical analyses 
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment
